Episode 16.
Personality Types: MBTI
Question:
Why can't everyone be happy
Key Points:
- Did an overview of Maslow's Heirarchy Part 1 and Part 2.
- See the Heirarchy picture below, if you need a refresher
- The main answer to why everyone can't be happy is because everyone has different personalities
- There are a lot of different personality types, one of which is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
- For each of the four items in the MBTI, everyone is somewhere on the continuum between one extreme and the other
- The first item in MBTI is Introverted (I) vs. Extroverted (E)
- Introversion vs Extroversion is a measure of what happens to one's energy when around other people
- Being around people drains energy from an introvert whereas extroverts gain energy
- The second set of letters is Intuitive (N) vs Sensing (S)
- An intuitive person wants to figure things out for themselves whereas sensing people want others to figure things out and then they just do it
- I, Leonard, am intuitive, so I made my own waffle recipe by finding a bunch of other recipes, putting them together, trying it, and then adjusting based on the results. A sensor would just find a recipe and follow it.
- The third MBTI letter is Fellings (F) vs Thinking (T)
- Feelers are in tune with their emotions and, usually, others emotions also, but thinkers are more about logic and not emotions
- The fourth letter in MBTI stands for percieving (P) vs judging (J)
- Judgers see things as either being good or bad, whereas perceivers see things as just being, neither good nor bad.
- Leonard is an INTJ, Malachi is an INTJ, and Alyssa is an ESFJ.
- Conclusion: the reason why everyone can't be happy is because everyone is different, so what makes one person happy will not make everyone else happy
